2006/12/31 Happy New Year!!I want to wish everyone out there a very Happy New Year! I hope 2007 brings everyone health and happiness! 2006/12/29 ZEROSize zero. How is that possible? Who is a size zero? Shouldn't they be non-existant? I've never been a size zero, put a 1 in front of the zero, that's more like it. Even on my best day the smallest size I could ever squeeze into is a 6. So who is a size zero?
Today I found out who wears a size zero, my daughter, age 12. At 12 years of age she doesn't fit into the childrens sizes, what fits in the waist does not fit in the length. So she had gotten a pair of jeans that were a size zero, they fit well in the waist but are too long. We argue over the length because the last thing I want to see is her pant legs under her shoes getting all dirty and torn up, she doesn't see a problem with it. We had to return an item today and she wanted to get another pair of jeans and she was quick to remind me that a size zero fits in the waist. I was quick to point out that they are too long. I am pleased to report that in the junior section they have size zero/short which worked out well. Of course she insisted on trying on a zero/regular but I vetoed that as soon as she came out of the dressing room ...too long :)
So there you have it, a size zero is for pre-teen girls. If you're an adult who wears a size zero, grab a hamburger. 2006/12/27 Gerald R. Ford 1913 - 2006Gerald Ford Remembered for His 'Calm and Steady' Hand Wednesday, December 27, 2006 FoxNews WASHINGTON — Tributes from around the country poured forward Wednesday for President Gerald R. Ford, who led America out of the tumultuous post-Watergate period with dignity and respect. Saying the United States will be grateful forever, President Bush on Wednesday bade farewell to the 38th president, just hours after he died at home in Rancho Mirage, Calif. "President Ford lived 93 years and his life was a blessing to America," Bush said from his ranch in Crawford, Texas, where he and the first lady are staying through the New Year. "President Ford was a great man who devoted the best years of his life in serving the United States. He was a true gentleman who reflected the best in America's character." Bush, who will attend Ford's funeral, said the man who took over the top job after the resignation of President Richard Nixon led with honorable conduct and a sense of duty in a time of post-Watergate turmoil. "On Aug. 9, 1974, he stepped into the presidency without ever having sought the office. He assumed power in a period of great division and turmoil. For a nation that needed healing and for an office that needed a calm and steady hand, Gerald Ford came along when we needed him most," Bush said. Ford was expected to lie in repose in three locations — Washington, D.C., Grand Rapids, Mich., and Palm Desert, Calif., with services held at the church he attended in California, St. Margaret's Episcopal Church. Details of his funeral were to be announced Wednesday. Ceremonies likely will begin Thursday or Friday. Ford's family will accompany his casket into the church sanctuary. The public was expected to be able to pay respects for a few hours, and the casket later will be flown to Washington for national ceremonies. A public viewing in the Capitol Rotunda was expected. The Ford Museum lobby will be open 24 hours a day until further notice, and the museum's other areas, including all exhibit galleries and the gift store, will be closed during this period. Ford likely will finally be laid to rest on the presidential grounds at the museum. On the Ann Arbor campus of the University of Michigan, the Ford Library lobby will be open for visitors for approximately seven days beginning Thursday. The Library's research room will be closed during this period. The New York Stock Exchange will close in observance of Ford’s death, which has long been tradition, most likely on the day of his funeral. Ford's lying in state at the Capitol Rotunda will take an act of Congress. Republican leaders could come to Washington to seek unanimous consent from empty chambers if the family wants Ford to lie in state. Little information about his death was available early Wednesday, though sources revealed he died at his home at 6:45 p.m. EST Tuesday. Ford's chief of staff called Bush Chief of Staff Josh Bolten at 10:25 p.m. EST to inform the president of the death. The president called Ford's widow, Betty Ford, to express his condolences just after midnight. In a written statement issued late Tuesday night, the president described Ford as a "great American" who dedicated many years of his life to service to the country. "With his quiet integrity, common sense and kind instincts, President Ford helped heal our land and restore public confidence in the presidency," Bush said. Other notables also expressed condolences for the death of the president who served in the aftermath of Watergate and was known as a healer for a nation suffering after the Vietnam War and political scandal that forced Nixon's resignation. "I was proud to know President Ford and to have served in the White House as his chief of staff," Vice President Dick Cheney said. "He was a dear friend and mentor to me until this very day. I feel a great sense of loss at his passing, and Lynne and our daughters join me in offering heartfelt sympathy to Betty Ford and her entire family." Ford was "one of the most admirable public servants and human beings I have ever known," said former President Jimmy Carter, who defeated Ford in 1976. "An outstanding statesman, he wisely chose the path of healing during a deeply divisive time in our nation's history," Carter said. "He frequently rose above politics by emphasizing the need for bipartisanship and seeking common ground on issues critical to our nation. I will always cherish the personal friendship we shared." "Ronnie and I always considered him a dear friend and close political ally," former first lady Nancy Reagan said. "His accomplishments and devotion to our country are vast, and even long after he left the presidency he made it a point to speak out on issues important to us all. ... I know the days ahead will be very difficult for Betty and my love and deepest sympathy go out to her and the entire Ford family." "Gerald Ford was a man of modesty, decency and national healing. Although he never aspired to America's highest office, once there he renewed our faith in our nation's system of government. He also earned our affection and respect," added Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., the incoming Senate minority leader. "Gerald Ford and I came from different sides of the aisle," said Sen. John Dingell, D-Mich., "but we forged a wonderful friendship as we served Michigan together in the House of Representatives. "When his nation called on him to serve this country in the most difficult of times, he rose up and held the country together. It will certainly be his legacy. I will remember him fondly and I will miss him dearly," said Dingell, who will lead the House Energy and Commerce Committee in the 110th Congress. Several people familiar with Ford told FOX News that he will be known as a very honest and good man who did what he thought was right and didn't bow to political pressure despite his decision to pardon Nixon for crimes related to the Watergate scandal. "There are just some people who are what they appear to be," said Doug Bailey, one of Ford's political media consultants, who added that Ford's earthy demeanor disarmed people suspicious of him after Nixon had let down so many. "He demonstrated a completely different kind of presidency" than Nixon, Bailey said. "He was a very, very down-to-Earth guy." Though often remembered as clumsy, especially after the famous trip down the staircase out of Air Force One, Ford was one of the most athletic presidents. He was a star on the University of Michigan football team and rejected an offer to join the National Football League in order to attend law school. "He was the best athlete that has ever been in the White House, at least in modern times," said former ABC news director Hal Bruno, who added that Ford got a "bum rap" as a klutz. Besides his unrecognized physical prowess, Ford himself said he was frequently misunderstood regarding his decision to pardon Nixon, who was the only president to resign from the post. "If I had not granted a pardon, Mr. Nixon would have been indicted and convicted and there would have been at appeal and there would have been a three- or four-year period ... that issue would be the headline. "We had to get that off the front page. The only way to do it was to make a decisive mood, grant pardons, and get on with the business of the country," Ford said in an interview with FOX News a few years ago. "At the time, the public did not generally understand the reasons for the pardon. Time has convinced most people, well over a majority," he said. Calling Ford "a man of wisdom," former Rep. Bill Archer, D-Texas, who served as chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, said Ford would have won the 1976 presidential election against Jimmy Carter had Ford not pardoned Nixon in September 1974. Bruno agreed. "He took us out of Watergate, he brought us out of Watergate, and those were perilous times. The pardon itself was inevitable. It had to be that way and probably most people knew it and agreed with it," said Bruno, who added that the "clumsy" way the pardon was handled was more Ford's downfall than the pardon itself. 2006/12/20 I'm moving to Colorado!OK, No I'm not, but if I had my choice that's where I would move.

It's not Christmas without fruitcake. Yes, I like it, love it even. Which leads me to the burning question of the day: Am I the only one who likes fruitcake? 2006/12/17 Christmas BreakthroughOver the past couple of weeks all I've heard from my son is that Santa's not coming, he's dead, I don't like him, you can get my toys at Walmart. I love Christmas, how is it that my own child dislikes it so much? He even tells me to turn the Christmas music off. It's not good.
Yesterday was the Christmas breakfast with Santa and boy was I dreading it. I told him that we were going to see Santa and he wanted to stay in the car, thankfully food is a motivator and we made our way inside. We ate and then the music started and he was off dancing, he likes to dance and this time didn't seem to mind that Christmas music was on. A short time later the announcement was made, Santa was spotted flying overhead and would be there in a few minutes. GULP! What's the worse that could happen? A few years of therapy should be sufficient. The sound of bells were in the distance and then he appeared, the big man in the red suit made his way around the room then went to sit in the next room. All the kids followed and Jacob stood there for a minute, I asked him if he wanted to go with the kids and we were off and running. WOW! I was shocked! There we were standing in line waiting to sit on Santa's lap. Oh, we've been there before and weren't out of the woods yet. Next thing you know, it's his turn, I placed him on Santa's lap and he was fine, smiling even. WOO HOO!! He got a present from Santa, a stuffed polar bear and was on his way. Now he likes the big guy, go figure. The only problem is, I have no idea what he asked Santa for. 2006/12/15 This is what it's all aboutA Charlie Brown Christmas
"And there were in the same country shepherds, abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them! And they were sore afraid ... And the angel said unto them, "Fear not! For, behold, I bring you tidings o great joy, which shall be to all my people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ, the Lord."
"And this shall be a sign unto you: Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger." And suddenly, there was with the angel a multitude of the Heavenly Host praising God, and saying, "Glory to God in the Highest, and on Earth peace, and good will toward men." "That's what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown." - Linus Van Pelt

The Andy Williams Christmas Show
It’s that time of year when you’re beginning to think about roasting chestnuts on an open fire, trimming the tree and going out and getting all the gifts that will turn into that intimidating pile which will have to be wrapped. So, maybe you should take a break and spend some time with one of your favorite Christmas-time friends. No, it’s not Saint Nick – It’s Andy Williams, America’s musical ambassador of Christmas. Andy is currently preparing his 2006 Christmas stage show, which will appear at the Palace Theatre on December 12, 2006. Andy will perform all of the seasonal favorites as well as many of his greatest hits. Andy Williams began his amazing career in his hometown of Wall Lake, Iowa. It was there he began singing with his three brothers in a local Presbyterian Church choir that was established by his parents. At the tender age of 8, Andy made his professional singing debut as part of the Williams Brothers Quartet. The brothers became regulars on radio station WHO´s “Iowa Barn Dance Show” in Des Moines, Iowa. This widespread radio exposure brought the boys a considerable following which eventually caught the attention of Bing Crosby. With Crosby, Andy and his brothers made their first professional recording, “Swinging on a star,” which became a tremendous hit in 1944. During his career Andy has amassed almost 20 gold albums and three that reached platinum status. He is well known for his numerous hit songs such as “Canadian Sunset,” “Butterfly,” “Lonely Street,” “The Hawaiian Wedding Song,” and “Can’t Get Used to Losing You.” There are many who remember sitting in front of the television each year and watching Andy and his family and their Christmas celebration. Millions of Americans made that viewing a holiday tradition for many years. The popularity of the television special led to the idea of putting together a seasonal concert. The Palace Theatre is proud to welcome The Andy Williams Christmas Spectacular.
The theatre is actually pretty nice, you can check it out here:
2006/12/11 Headline of the weekWrong turnNASCAR champ Johnson breaks wrist in golf cart fallCHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Nextel Cup champion Jimmie Johnson broke his left wrist when he fell off a golf cart during a celebrity tournament, his team said Sunday. The injury occurred Friday at a tournament in Lecanto, Fla., and will prevent him from driving for at least four weeks. The injury was to his non-shifting hand, and he should be able to participate in preseason testing at Daytona International Speedway next month. "I was in a golf cart and the driver took a sharp turn," Johnson said in a statement. "I wasn't holding on tight enough, landed awkwardly on the ground and heard a little pop. It was a fluke deal, but fortunately we're in the offseason and I don't plan to miss any additional time." The Citrus County Chronicle reported that Johnson was laying on the roof of the cart when he fell. Johnson will not be able to compete in the Race of Champions Nations Cup at the Stade de France in Paris next weekend. Johnson, who teamed with Jeff Gordon and Colin Edwards to win the Nations Cup in 2002, said he will still travel to Paris as a consultant for Team USA. He was scheduled to team with X-Games champion Travis Pastrana in Paris. A replacement for Johnson was not immediately announced. "It's disappointing that I can't compete ... but I'll definitely be in Paris to cheer them on and provide any support that I can," he said. Johnson wrapped up his first NASCAR championship last month and celebrated it Dec. 1 at the annual awards ceremony in New York City. It capped a whirlwind year for Johnson, who won the Daytona 500 and the NASCAR event at Indianapolis Motor Speedway en route to the title. This is the second consecutive year that NASCAR's reigning champion was injured during the offseason. Tony Stewart broke his wrist and bruised his ribs last January when he flipped a car during a qualifying race for the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals. Stewart's arm was placed in a cast, but he was able to compete a month later when the season opened at Daytona. *Does anyone else find the humor in this? 2006/12/8 I'm itBy the LettersThank You Proto for assigning me with this task :)

Lofty goal for rooftop fundraiser
Vigil atop American Legion post seeks donations for U.S. troops
By RICK CLEMENSON, Staff writer
First published: Sunday, December 3, 2006 RENSSELAER -- Lisa Robinson was willing to go to great lengths to support U.S. troops. So when the East Greenbush woman planned to raise $25,000 worth of donations, she set up camp on an American Legion rooftop early Saturday -- and promised not to come down until she's reached her goal. "It's a small sacrifice compared to what the troops go through," said Robinson, 41, whose son, Jayson Overocker, is stationed with the Air Force in Phoenix. At 9 a.m. Saturday morning, a Clinton Heights firetruck hoisted her onto the flat roof of American Legion Melvin Roads Post No. 1231 with a tent, sleeping bag, ceramic heater, reading material and mini-portable toilet in tow. She also opted to bring along cinder blocks to anchor her tent after hearing about high wind warnings for Saturday. Robinson, a 17-year member of the post and its ladies auxiliary president and bartender, poured beers and joked with customers on Friday but eyed weather reports on a nearby television throughout the day. Forecasts called for temperatures to dip into the 20s by Saturday night. She hoped to be inside by nightfall, but was prepared to stay past Sunday. Well-wishers honked as they drove by or stopped to donate. Robinson, clad in a heavy yellow bunker coat donated by the fire department and Gore-Tex, waved to drivers and shouted "Support the troops!" as she battled 20 mph winds on the post's roof. The post had a medium-size trailer stationed in the post's parking lot to store the donations. Batteries (double and triple A), black socks, anti-fungal foot powder, beef jerky, nonperishable food and DVDs are among the items troops request the most, according to Robinson, who has spearheaded local efforts that resulted in more than 1,000 care packages being sent to troops deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. Last year, she helped decorate the post Christmas tree with glass bulbs in memory of troops from New York killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. She said more bulbs need to be added to the tree this year. "Lisa has always been the forerunner on supporting the troops. They are always number one in her book," said Post Commander Todd Wiley, who spent 13 years in the Marines before becoming an Army Reservist. Wiley intends on transferring to an area unit that he said is likely to deploy to Iraq next year. Asked how it feels to be on the receiving end of a care package, the Desert Storm veteran said, "When I was over there, everything we got, a little bottle of shampoo, a letter from a sixth-grader, it makes you feel really good." Robinson, who volunteers with the Adopt-a-Platoon program that sends troops care packages, sees a sharp decline in the number of donations in the area and the country. The nonprofit organization Military Moms, which runs Adopt-a-Platoon, told her many units in Iraq have not received any care packages in months. "It's harder to get donations," Robinson said. "When the war started I sold 3,000 magnets supporting the troops, but they aren't selling and I don't see them on cars anymore." She said many of her countrymen have forgotten about the war in Iraq, and she's willing to go to great lengths to refocus their attentions. "After 9/11, it was simple. Patriotism was high, but now it's harder and harder to get donations for the troops," Robinson said. "People are forgetting and that's terrible." By Friday, word about Robinson's rooftop fundraiser, was getting around the community and early donations trickled in. One woman she'd never met walked in Friday afternoon with a $200 check after hearing of Robinson's stunt. That night, Robinson prepared for a long, cold, exciting day ahead and thought about the reason behind her unusual campaign. "The vets are very dear to me," said Robinson. "They are younger and younger, and it's scary." 2006/12/2 Tis the season ...I love Christmas, I really do but ...
Shopping ...UGH! I enjoy Christmas shopping. I put a lot of time and thought behind my purchases, that's how it should be right? It's what I do and I enjoy it. However ...I've noticed over the past few years that my patience with people is decreasing. Everyone is in such a rush that they don't pay attention to where they're going. Worse yet, they don't care! It starts in the parking lot, the battle over parking spots, they follow you on your way to the car. For fun I'm going to start making trips out to the car to drop stuff off just so someone will think I'm leaving. It's even worse in the mall. Everyone going in different directions, standing in the way, not moving! Add a cell phone to the mix and now you're talking a complete stand still. If you can't multi-task then leave your phone in your purse or pocket or better yet leave it at home. Oh and gone are the days of holding the door open for someone.
Yes, people are getting on my nerves. I never thought I would say this but, shopping online is sounding better by the day. 2006/12/1 World AIDS DayDecember 1st is World AIDS Day. Established by the World Health Organization in 1988, World AIDS Day serves to focus global attention on the devastating impact of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Observance of this day provides an opportunity for governments, national AIDS programs, churches, community organizations and individuals to demonstrate the importance of the fight against HIV/AIDS. With an estimated 38.6 million people worldwide living with HIV at the end of 2005, and more than 25 million people having died of AIDS since 1981, December 1st serves to remind everyone that action makes a difference in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Americans should be reminded that HIV/AIDS does not discriminate. With an estimated 1,039,000 to 1,185,000 HIV- positive individuals living in the U.S., and approximately 40,000 new infections occurring every year, the U.S., like other nations around the world is deeply affected by HIV/AIDS.
